The Nebraska Initiative

A model for state agencies, commissions, and museums.

The Nebraska Initiative sets the standard for partnerships between state agencies, commissions for the blind, and museums, showing how Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) curricula can be accessible and engaging through tactile images and exhibitions. In collaboration with the Nebraska Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Tactile Images launched 100 weeks of tactile exhibitions that enhance the quality of life for blind, disabled, and sighted visitors alike.

By incorporating the goals of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), this initiative empowers individuals to believe in themselves, mainstreaming accessibility in cultural spaces. Nebraska's model serves as a guide for other states to make their museums more inclusive, reflecting the diverse needs of all communities.
